GASP

Sales Cycle Length

Sales Cycle Length: The average time from opportunity creation to close.

Formula

Sales Cycle = Average of (Close date - Opportunity created date) for deals won in the period

Computable definition

The canonical formula in the GASP formula grammar. The MCP server compiles it to SQL over the datasets listed below.

avg(field.close_date - field.opportunity_created_date where field.opportunity_stage = 'closed_won' and in_period(field.close_date))

Unit: days

Median variant
median(field.close_date - field.opportunity_created_date where field.opportunity_stage = 'closed_won' and in_period(field.close_date))

Notes: Mean days from opportunity creation to close for deals won in the period, as sales.md defines it. Report the median variant beside it to show outlier skew.

Data requirements

Grain: Per event · Frequency: Per deal · Aggregation: event · Staged: no · Main source: CRM.

Field Dataset Type
close_date opportunity date
opportunity_created_date opportunity date
opportunity_stage opportunity string
snapshot_date opportunity date
Example SQL (Postgres)
SELECT (SELECT AVG((close_date - opportunity_created_date)) FROM opportunity WHERE snapshot_date = :period_end AND (opportunity_stage = 'closed_won' AND (close_date >= :period_start AND close_date <= :period_end))) AS sales_cycle

Access: recommended sensitivity tier internal, access scope department-scoped. Guidance your policy engine enforces.

From an agent: with the GASP MCP server, call lookup_metric({ "name": "Sales Cycle Length" }) or generate_query({ "metric": "Sales Cycle Length", "adapter": "<your adapter JSON>" }).

Benchmarks

  • SMB: 14-40 days
  • Mid-market: 60-90 days
  • Enterprise: 90-180+ days

What It Tells You

How long deals take to close. Longer cycles require more pipeline coverage.
