Accounts Receivable Balance

Accounts Receivable Balance: Total amount outstanding on open invoices at period end.

Formula

AR Balance = Sum of outstanding amounts on open invoices at period end

Computable definition

The canonical formula in the GASP formula grammar. The MCP server compiles it to SQL over the datasets listed below.

sum(field.outstanding_amount where field.outstanding_amount > 0) at period_end

Unit: currency

Breakdowns

  • by_payment_status: one row per payment_status value

Notes: Open invoices on the period-end invoice snapshot. Should reconcile to balance_sheet.accounts_receivable, which DSO reads; differences are unapplied cash or write-offs. by_payment_status returns one row per payment status as of period end, the split finance reviews when chasing collections.

Data requirements

Grain: End-of-month receivables snapshot · Frequency: Monthly · Aggregation: snapshot (month) · Staged: no · Main source: Billing.

Field Dataset Type
outstanding_amount invoice decimal
snapshot_date invoice date
Example SQL (Postgres)
SELECT (SELECT COALESCE(SUM(outstanding_amount), 0) FROM invoice WHERE snapshot_date = :period_end AND outstanding_amount > 0) AS accounts_receivable_balance

From an agent: with the GASP MCP server, call lookup_metric({ "name": "Accounts Receivable Balance" }) or generate_query({ "metric": "Accounts Receivable Balance", "adapter": "<your adapter JSON>" }).

What It Tells You

How much billed cash is still to be collected. The payment status breakdown shows how much of it sits in partly paid or written-off invoices.
