GASP

Billable Utilization

Billable Utilization: Percentage of available time spent on billable work.

Formula

Billable Utilization = Billable hours / Available hours × 100

Computable definition

The canonical formula in the GASP formula grammar. The MCP server compiles it to SQL over the datasets listed below.

sum(field.hours where field.time_entry_type = 'billable') / sum(field.available_hours)

Unit: percent (the formula yields an unscaled ratio)

Notes: Available hours are total work hours minus PTO, holidays and company meetings.

Data requirements

Grain: Weekly aggregate · Frequency: Weekly · Aggregation: aggregate (week) · Staged: no · Main source: PSA.

Field Dataset Type
available_hours consultant decimal
entry_date time_entry date
hours time_entry decimal
period_start consultant date
time_entry_type time_entry string
Example SQL (Postgres)
SELECT (CAST((SELECT COALESCE(SUM(hours), 0) FROM time_entry WHERE entry_date >= :period_start AND entry_date <= :period_end AND time_entry_type = 'billable') AS DOUBLE PRECISION) / NULLIF((SELECT COALESCE(SUM(available_hours), 0) FROM consultant WHERE period_start >= :period_start AND period_start <= :period_end), 0)) AS billable_utilization

From an agent: with the GASP MCP server, call lookup_metric({ "name": "Billable Utilization" }) or generate_query({ "metric": "Billable Utilization", "adapter": "<your adapter JSON>" }).
