Headroom

Headroom: Available capacity before scaling is required.

Formula

Headroom = (Max capacity - Current usage) / Max capacity × 100

Computable definition

The canonical formula in the GASP formula grammar. The MCP server compiles it to SQL over the datasets listed below.

1 - metric.infrastructure_utilization

Unit: percent (the formula yields an unscaled ratio)

Notes: (Max capacity minus current usage) divided by max capacity.

Data requirements

Grain: Per service per interval, aggregate daily · Frequency: Daily · Aggregation: aggregate (day) · Staged: no · Main source: Cloud Provider.

Field Dataset Type
period_start service_metrics date
utilization service_metrics decimal
Example SQL (Postgres)
SELECT (1 - ((SELECT AVG(utilization) FROM service_metrics WHERE period_start >= :period_start AND period_start <= :period_end))) AS headroom

From an agent: with the GASP MCP server, call lookup_metric({ "name": "Headroom" }) or generate_query({ "metric": "Headroom", "adapter": "<your adapter JSON>" }).
